Why Musical Theatre Mastery Exists

Musical Theatre Is an Acting Discipline First.

Most vocal training treats singing and acting like two separate skills, taught in two separate rooms. That gap is where good performers stall out — technically solid, dramatically forgettable. Musical Theatre Mastery was built by a working music director and acting-first teacher to close it: real acting technique fused with real vocal technique, so every phrase you sing is also a choice you’re making as an actor.

Built on 25+ years in music direction, composition, and performing arts education — including time on faculty at Orange County School of the Arts and current work coaching musical theatre students at South Coast Repertory.

30 minutes on Zoom. No pressure, no pitch — just a clear read on where you stand and what would actually move you forward.

Tools

Practice Like You Have a Coach in the Room

Coaching sessions are where the real work happens — but growth compounds in the hours between them. These are the tools built to keep you sharp, focused, and honest in your own practice time.

Vocal Warmups

Guided warmup routines built around support and placement, not just scales for the sake of scales.

Audition Prep Toolkit

Cut selection, slating, and callback-room strategy — practical tools for the parts of auditioning nobody teaches.

AI Practice Tools

AI-assisted practice tools that give you feedback between sessions, built around the same acting-first framework as the coaching.

Training

The Mosaic Method

Most performers get fragments: a voice lesson here, an acting class there, an audition workshop the week before callbacks. The Mosaic Method puts those fragments together on purpose. It’s a single, integrated approach built around one idea — that musical theatre is acting first, and every technical choice you make with your voice and body should come from a character’s intention, not the other way around.

Acting Technique

Intention, given circumstances, and objective work applied directly to lyrics — so every phrase is a choice, not just a note.

Vocal Technique

Breath, support, and placement trained as tools that serve the story, not tricks performed in isolation.

Physical Embodiment

Posture, gesture, and stage presence built from character truth, not imitation of what looks “right.”

Headshot for David Jayden Anthony

I’ve spent 25 years in the room where it happens. Now I’m putting everything I learned online — for you.

I’m a musical theatre writer, voice and acting coach, choral arranger, educator, and Berklee M.F.A. candidate. My coaching is shaped by deep technical listening and a writer’s understanding of how music and story work together.

I’ve served as rehearsal pianist for Jason Robert Brown and Stephen Schwartz, composed and arranged for Jonelle Allen, and Music Directed for Lindsay Mendez. As an OCSA alumnus and former faculty, my students have gone on to top college programs, professional productions, and performing careers.
